From James Baldwin to Alice Walker to Tupac Shakur, contemporary African American writers have created a body of literature that is loved and admired the world over. In this class, we will read, discuss, and savor a broad sampling of these authors’ works.

Bay Area African American writers and scholars will be invited to speak to our class; an optional class trip to The Lorraine Hansberry Theatre in San Francisco will be scheduled.
